Chrome and Chromium

I run both windows and ubuntu in my system. I had been using chrome browser in Windows and chromium in Ubuntu. But only recently did I notice the change in naming and in logo.

Well, both are same with some minute differences.

Chromium is an open source browser developed by the chromium group. It's website is chromium.org. Since it's open source we could download, modify and build it to suite our platform.
Chrome (Browser) is also an open source browser that is built from Chromium. This one is www.google.com/chrome. Here is an excerpt from Wiki.

Google takes this source code and adds an integrated Flash Player, a PDF viewer, the Google name and logo, an auto-updater system called GoogleUpdate, an opt-in option for users to send Google their usage statistics and crash reports as well as, in some instances, RLZ tracking (see Google Chrome) which transmits information in encoded form to Google, for example, when and where Chrome has been downloaded.

Wow... so this is why I had a hard time making some videos work in chromium. :P

The link below explains the exact differences between both.

There are other customised versions of Chromium:
ChromePlus
Comodo Dragon
Flock
Rockmelt
Iron

but Chrome is the best amongst all.

Note: In Ubuntu, Both Google Chrome and Chromium use different locations for their profiles, so you can run both and they don't clash at all.
